Samsung’s next curved screen smartphone will be the Galaxy S Edge
The curved screened version of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 is likely to be simply called the Galaxy S Edge. That is according to a semi-official source – Vodafone Netherlands which lists a device with that name for pre-order in the source code of its web page.
We covered news concerning the curved screen variant of the Samsung Galaxy S6 a week ago here on Tech Assimilate. The smartphone is expected to feature a screen which wraps around both left and right edges, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge design where only the right hand edge features the wraparound display.
Just like how the Galaxy Note with a curved screen isn’t dubbed the Galaxy Note 4 Edge the upcoming Galaxy S with a curved screen isn’t going to include a version number. That makes some sense. If in the future Samsung adopts curved screens for all its top handsets the edge moniker becomes unnecessary, and if it drops the idea entirely that also makes the ‘Edge’ suffix surplus to requirements.
That the new naming scheme comes from a smartphone and mobile network giant points to its authenticity. It also kind of confirms the existence of such a smartphone design which is yet to be pictured in any form. However it comes, with whatever name and whether it has one or two curved edges we can’t wait to see it! It will hopefully be a main feature of the Samsung booth at MWC at the beginning of March.
