Apple iPhone 6L – the L is for large
Next month we are expecting to see two new Apple iPhone models launched, as it has been reported once or twice before. The latest rumour about these much anticipated new smartphones involves the name of the largest of the pair being released; the 5.5-inch screened device.
Taiwan’s Apple Daily has heard from industry sources that the larger iPhone will be dubbed the Apple iPhone 6L. Even though it’s a Chinese language publication the newspaper successfully deciphered that the ‘L’ indicated that Apple is going ‘Large’. At least it’s a sensible suffix to join what we expect to be the iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen.
What will the smaller – but larger than the current generation – iPhone be suffixed? We could guess it will continue the historic pattern and as the first iPhone 6 be launched without a suffix. So you would choose between an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6L in the Apple Store.
With these naming rumours from Apple Daily some further information has come out regarding battery capacities of the respective smartphones. The Taiwanese Newspaper says that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6L model will come with a 2,915mAh battery pack, bigger than expected. We have previously heard that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will boast a 1,800mAh battery.
You will see from the photos, more available at Apple Daily, that the new iPhone battery cells are made by the Huizhou Desay Battery Company which is an OEM used by Apple for previous devices.
