Apple launches ‘bigger than bigger’ iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Apple launched its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus tonight, announcing a smartphone range that “isn’t simply bigger — it’s better in every way”. The key predictions about these devices were correct, as were many of the leaked visuals. Here we have a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. It is ultra thin and sports rounded edges to minimise the hand-hurt from its extra girth. While the new smartphones are bigger they are thinner than the iPhone 5S, at only 6.9mm and 7.1mm thick respectively.

iPhone 6 Displays

The displays are both ‘Retina HD’ type with high pixel densities and offer “brilliant colours and higher contrast” than ever before. The iPhone 6 offers a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels and the iPhone 6 Plus adheres to the full HD standard of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

iPhone 6 Processor

Apple again upgrades the processor with the numerical increment of the iPhone range. This time we get the ‘A8’ chip which boasts a 64-bit architecture. It is said to bring both more processing power to the user and better efficiency therefore extending the battery life of these smartphones. The Apple iPhone 6 is said to offer the best battery life ever. Just like last time Apple has integrated a coprocessor to take over some specific DSP style tasks, taking stress off the A8 processor and making your battery last even better and phone perform better. The new motion processor is named the ‘M8’.

iPhone 6 Camera

Imaging is ever more important in smartphones and now Apple has boosted its display size to match the Android and Windows Phone crowd it doesn’t want to look weak in the photography department. Apple boats an all new sensor using ‘Focus Pixels’ for faster autofocus. Video recording has been particularly overhauled and users will be able to record 1080p video at 60fps or even make slo-mo masterpieces at 240fps. The main camera has an f2.2 aperture.

Other Features

As rumoured Apple also has brought NFC and Touch ID together for payment systems. ‘Apple Pay’ will arrive in October to help you pay in stores and online with a single finger touch. Wireless LTE connectivity has also been boosted. Finally we will also see the introduction of iOS, made to make every experience on your shiny new iPhone 6 “feel bigger and better”.
