TIYO: the smartphone escape button to get you out of awkward social situations
Ever find yourself desperate to receive a phone call just to get out of an awkward situation, whether it’s a blind date or a never ending meeting? This Is Your Out is a new startup currently funding via Indiegogo which has come up with a key fob that calls your smartphone when you need it the most.
Dubbed TIYO (tee-yo), the “eject button for bad situations” will ring your smartphone for real and works with any phone with Bluetooth. The startup is looking to fund a goal of $100,000 with a month left to go. The basic $35 pledge price will secure you the TIYO along with 25 calls, and any additional calls are sold in blocks of 25 for $5.
“Personally, as an entrepreneur who does a lot of pitching and networking, I’ve found myself in many situations where I get stuck talking to someone who won’t shut up and doesn’t get the hint that I’m trying to leave. I don’t want to be rude or hurt their feelings so it can be hard to detach at times, but when you are out on a mission to meet new clients or investors, time is money,” said Ivan Lukianchuk, according to CNet.
He added that the product can be used in both business and personal situations, saying: “I think the top uses for the device will be to get out of bad dates, to get away from people hitting on you, to escape boring [or] useless meetings, to get out of talking to people who just won’t shut up, and to escape awkward moments.”
Caller IDs can be customised, and the gadget also makes sure there is someone speaking on the other end of the line, to make it even more convincing to the person you’re trying to get away from. All you have to do is repeat what the person on the other end of the line is saying, with the startup providing a range of different scripts for the user to pick from. Users can update caller IDs and scripts via the TIYO app, which is available on every smartphone platform. Those who aren’t smartphone owners can update and customise their device through TIYO’s website.
