LG’s new flagship G3 officially unveiled, said to be coming to major UK networks on 1 July
Going head to head with recently released rival new flagship Android smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, the 5.5-inch G3 claims to have the best display of any phone ever released, sporting a 2560×1440 resolution ‘2K’ QHD display with a pixel density of 538ppi. However, Samsung’s rumoured updated flagship, the Galaxy S5 Prime, is said to be catching up on the high-res display game and will sport a QHD display also.
Much effort have been put into the device’s camera too, as LG pairs the G3’s 13MP shooter with OIS+ image stabilisation and Laser Auto Focus. The laser-guided photography will provide auto-focus in as little time as 0.276 seconds, as a laser beam is used to measure the distance between the camera and the subject. The company didn’t forget to look after the front-facing shooter either, as the 2.1MP front-facing camera features LG’s new gesture control selfie mode, which allows the user to begin a countdown timer initiated by a hand gesture. We can imagine this will become very popular for those selfie loving smartphone camera users.
Other key specifications of the LG G3 smartphone include:
- 150g compact lightweight metal body measuring 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9mm
- Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz
- 2GB RAM
- 4.4.2 Android KitKat with LG’s simplistic UI design
- 16GB built-in storage expandable by up to 128GB via microSD
- 3,000mAh removable battery
- Dual LED flash
Going on sale in South Korea on 28 May, the device is said to be available from major UK networks from 1 July, according to CNet. O2 is said offer the phone on its Refresh tariffs where as Carphone Warehouse is opening sign-up for updates from tomorrow whilst orders will be taken in early June. Three (3UK) also emailed us saying that it will be offering the LG G3 to customers but had no further details to share.
